From Pals to Begur – coastal hiking trail with a dream view

Along the Camí de Ronda: the view sweeps over the turquoise sea, the sun sweeps itself again and again through the treetops of the fragrant pine trees and the cicadas in the choir chirp all around… With this dreamlike scenery you will Camí de Ronda rewarded. The Spanish coastal hiking trail stretches for a total of 200 km from Portbou on the French border to the southern coastal town of Blanes. If you were to walk the whole Camí de Ronda, you would be on the road for a while. Of 140 km in 8 days to 43 km in 2 days Everything is included here.
First Stage of Camí de Ronda: pals

But we decided – for now – to take a somewhat more moderate route. On a beautiful summer afternoon, when the sun is no longer burning so hard from the sky and a pleasant breeze blows from the sea, we lace up the hiking boots and start our tour at pals. Arriving at the beach, we treat ourselves to an ice cream – practically according to the motto “First of all the pleasure, then the work”. But don’t be so strict with us, we moved enough afterwards.
Away from the beach hustle at Camí de Ronda
So it starts on the wide sandy beach of pals, on which the waves pile up on this day. We reach the first section of the path via a small stone staircase and find ourselves immediately away from the beach hustle and bustle. We watch in fascination as the waves are whipping against the rock faces and splashing up almost to us. How powerful the Mediterranean on the Catalan coast can be!

Tropical feeling at Playa Ila Roja
We continue between the rough rock face and the deep blue sea to the next small – but extremely fine – bay. With its huge boulders in the water and the almost tropical-looking and tree-covered rock walls, Playa Illa Roja is a little reminiscent of the famous beaches of Thailand. Here, too, the waves are rolling up today and make you want to go to the sea.
High above Playa Ila Roja
After the mood of the beautiful bay was captured with the camera, we set off on the steepest climb to date – only to get to the top with a spectacular view over the Costa Brava to be rewarded. From here you can see large parts of the coast and the view sweeps over the endless, deep blue sea.
moment of pleasure at the highest point of our hike
After a short moment of enjoyment, we continue our little hike. Via the now beautifully paved path we meander to the next and last point of the excursion. Here, too, the view is fantastically beautiful and the surrounding villas with sea views make us dream a little jealously.

Last Bay: Sa Riera

The sun is slowly sinking behind the mountain. The last stretch of the path leads us through small groups of trees, which have an almost mystical effect in the evening light. The stone staircase leads down to the sea around the corner and we see our destination: the Sa Riera bay at the coastal town begur. The sailboats rock gently in the turquoise blue water and the last bathers of the day venture into the floods of the Costa Brava. The small cafés right on the Sa Riera beach invite you to refresh yourself with sea views.

Just the beginning…

We are sure: the short stretch of the Spanish coastal hiking trail was just the beginning. And that’s also one of the great advantages of the Camí de Ronda – you can choose and adjust the routes as you like. Whether small or large, fit or rather cozy – everyone has the opportunity to make their way through Spanish nature at their own pace. And what could be more relaxing than leaving the car and walking along the Catalan coast?
