Hike – Calella de Palafrugell to Tamariu

Hike – Calella de Palafrugell to Tamariu

Hike – “The water does not rest day and night, is always on the move, the water.” Hiking is fun, even then composer Franz Schubert knew that. On a rather warm morning, we set off to explore the Costa Brava on foot. The Camí de Ronda always leads us along the impressive “Wild Coast”, past picturesque fishing villages and beautiful bays with fine, golden sandy beach, until after Tamariu.

Battle for places

We start our hike in the small fishing town Calella de Palafrugell. In a street café, we quickly strengthen ourselves with Bocadillos and Café Con Leche before we can finally start marching. The route takes us through the large round arches of Port Bo Platz and past the Canadell beach. It’s Sunday lunchtime and the restaurants are crowded with tourists as well as locals. Also on the beach we can no longer find a free gap, so close together is bath towel next to a bath towel. Another quick selfie, then we’re glad to finally leave all the hustle and bustle behind us.

Pink mallows bloom along the way. A beautiful sight.

Hike the strongest lighthouse in Spain

circled the headland below an old watchtower, we finally come after fairly quickly Llafranc. After a short drinking break and a few photos, you continue up from the harbor on a staircase on a winding road, past luxurious villas, to the Sant Sebastiá lighthouse. This is the most powerful lighthouse in Spain with a headlight range of 100 kilometers. There is also a restaurant with a great view of the town of Llafranc and the cliffs surrounding it. The path leads us around the lighthouse, past a watchtower from the 15th century. Here we rest for the first time, rest from the steep ascent in the midday heat and strengthen ourselves in the shade with the snack brought with us.

Hike on the cliff
On the hiking trail, the unique view of the cliffs and the turquoise blue discolored Mediterranean Sea opens up to us again and again.

Relaxed, we aim for the last stage of our route, which meanders down through the forest and meadows past a few secluded private properties into Cala Pedrosa. In this remote stone bay you will find a small fisherman’s hut where you can satisfy your small hunger in between in the summer. Fascinated by the colorful wave game – dark blue, turquoise, bright green in the sun – panting for a few minutes on a large rock. In the bay there is a constant coming and going, we can’t find any peace here. Quickly pack the drinking bottle back in, then it goes out of the bay and up steeply. Shortly thereafter we enjoy the aromatic scent and the pleasant coolness of a pine forest. From time to time the sea flashes between the trees. Excited to see what awaits us after the forest, we follow the path, which now always leads along the coast, past small rocky bays with almost kitschy turquoise blue water.

One last look down on Cala Pedrosa, then it goes steeply up in the shade.

Arrival in Tamariu – hike

Almost three quarters of an hour later we finally reach the beach of Tamariu. Crystal clear, Caribbean blue water and coarse, red-gold sandy beach await us. The shoes took off, we climb over a pair of rocks that separate the path from the beach. Sand massages our tired feet and cool salt water refreshes wonderfully. Exhausted, we rest on a bench on the beach promenade. There is a lot of activity in the small coastal town. Sangria, beer and white wine are on the restaurant tables. Hikers, day tourists, residents and sunbathers meet here. Before we start our way back, we let a delicious ice cream melt in our tongues. Seagulls draw their circles. A cool breeze blows in from the sea, just wonderful! The sun is slowly sinking deeper and it’s time to go back.

Hike - View of Tamariu
Finally we arrive in Tamariu. We look forward to walking barefoot through the cool water.
