Landed in Girona, quickly picked up the suitcases and off to Barcelona immediately? Not so fast!
Far too often, the charming city of Girona is overshadowed by the larger Catalan capital, which is also flooded by tourists. Not only the beautiful medieval old town speaks for Girona – there is so much more.

Basilica de Sant Feliu
As soon as we got out of the car, we notice that our parking lot is only a stone’s throw away from the church Sant Feliu is removed. So it’s a good idea to first the oldest church of Girona pay a visit! A very impressive building, both from the outside and inside, that harmoniously combines different styles.

Cedral de Santa Maria
Less than 2 minutes away is the nearest overwhelming attraction: the cathedral Santa Maria. Probably the most popular selfie spot in town! We too can’t resist and take a little moment to capture the church from every imaginable perspective. Too bad we’re missing the selfie stick…

Once you have climbed the stairs with a total of 90 steps and entered the building, you are overwhelmed by the size and, above all, beauty of the interior. Here, too, the different architectural styles – romantic, gothic, baroque – are harmoniously combined.
Pont de les Peixateries Velles
While we stroll relaxed through the old town and explore a few cute little boutiques, we land on the next popular photo motif faster than expected: the Rote Stahlbrücke Pont de les Peixateries Velles, which is the old town of Girona with the modern part and was created by Gustave Eiffel. Here you have a beautiful view of the river Onyar, the colorful house facades and the impressive cathedral.

Rocambolesc Gelateria
When the stomach slowly growls, we come up with the idea of an ice cream in the well-known and popular Rocambolesc Gelateria to be treated as the best ice cream parlor in the city and was recommended to us a few days earlier. It is an ice cream parlor of a special kind, because it is convincing with unusual toppings that not only look fantastic, but also taste unique. Pink cotton candy as a topping? No problem here! After a short wait – you can tell that the ice cream is very popular .. – we finally have our divine vanilla ice cream in our hands with pieces of caramel, brownies and chocolate sauce.

Shopping in Girona
After sightseeing and feasting, we feel like shopping! I was particularly happy about the French cosmetics chain Sephora, which unfortunately is not yet sufficiently represented in Germany. But the shops of the Inditex group are also all on site and, as always, warm my shopping heart.
Passeig de la Muralla
With a few full bags, but also a lighter purse in your luggage, you go back across the River Onyar to the last tourist spot for today: the Girona city wall. The further you walk along the wall, the more beautiful the view becomes! An impressive panoramic view of the old town, the cathedral, the Jewish quarter, the church and the surrounding area with the Pyrenees.

Rambla de la Llibertat
After all the highlights we are hungry. Luckily, there are lots of restaurants here just waiting for hungry tourists to come by! After the nose we run to Rambla de la Llibertat and look for a nice place there. Satisfied and satisfied, we then make our way home again and are happy to have seen so much of Girona. And what is still missing is definitely still coming up for the next time!
