Hiking between Roses and Cadaqués

Felsbucht

Hiking on the Costa Brava: My friend was recently visiting. On my weekend off, we wanted to reconcile despite the heat, exercise and bathing fun. On the Costa Brava there is a great coastal hiking trail, the so-called Camí de Ronda, which connects the Catalan village of Portbou at the French border with Blanes almost 200 kilometers away.

put a stop to the smugglers

The various stages of the trail provide spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and unique natural landscapes, shaped by bizarre rock formations and steep cliffs, with pine forests, agaves and cactus. Especially in spring and early summer, the sea of flowers on the side of the road is impressive here. In the past, these ancient trails were already used by fishermen to reach coves by land. Later, these were also used by the Guardia Civil to convict smugglers. Today, these paths have been well developed and connected to a great path along the coast.

Hiking Punta Falconera
From the Punta Falconera, mine has a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and the coastal hiking trail.

Let’s go: Hiking along the Mediterranean Sea

We really liked the hiking from the bay to the bay. On the route between Roses and Cadaqués, we choose the stage of Punta Falconera towards Cala Montjoi. Let’s see how far we can make it in this heat… We get to the Punta Falconera from Roses on a gravel road. No problem at all with our old Mercedes Combi. Once there, we park the car and are greeted by a unique view of the turquoise discolored Mediterranean. We take a few photos in amazement and enthusiastic about the view.

Speechless from this view on the Punta Falconera, we take a little photo break.

Climbing over the rocks

Then we make our way to Cala Lladó, which leads us through a pine forest. The crystal clear water is already flashing between the trees. Let’s go to the sea! The path now falls a little steeper downhill. Good footwear is a prerequisite! We come to a small scree field. Now it’s time to be careful while climbing over the loose stones. From one boulder to the next we finally get down into the rocky bay. After the climb we have now earned a break. The cool water is calling! Unloaded our things, we climb over a few rocks into the water. Not that easy, but finally we made it. This cooldown is wonderful! Afterwards we enjoy the snack we brought with us on a large stone while the sun dries us. A little exhausted, we decide to take the following path by car, as it has now become too late for another walk.

Between the pine trees we look down into the Cala Lladó. The turquoise blue wet is already waiting for us.

arrived safely

After an adventurous drive on a steep, winding gravel road with no edge limit, we come to a viewpoint at the top. From here has my beautiful and breathtaking view of Roses and the Mediterranean Sea. Then continue on the country road to Cala Montjoi. Here we plunge into the water again. Compared to the strong waves in the Cala Lladó, the water here is as calm and quiet as in the swimming pool. Perfect to swim far and relax. The sun gradually disappears behind the mountains and we start our journey home.
